Hajjah Naziha Adil

Hajjah Naziha with her late mother Hajjah Amina Adil.

Hajjah Naziha is a descendant of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ on both her paternal and maternal sides. She was born into a unique household, whose existence was and continues to be based purely on the service to Allah. As a young child, she lived next door to Grandshaykh Abdullah Daghestani ﻖ, master of the Naqshbandi tariqah. Upon his passing, her father, Mawlana Shaykh Nazim became the shaykh of the tariqah. Her mother Hajjah Amina Adil ﻖ, was a scholar of Islam, who taught and wrote extensively on the lives of Allah’s prophets.

Hajjah Naziha’s life has not been an easy one, but it has been filled with the honor and dignity of divine service in many forms. From the time she was ten, travelers would come to stay at Grandshaykh Abdullah’s home and at her father, Shaykh Nazim’s home. Often she and her mother, Hajjah Amina ﻖ, would clean the guests’ laundry and every day she assister her mother preparing food for the shaykh and his guests, the students streaming in and out of his house without cease.

They worked very hard in the household of her father, who, as the deputy of Grandshaykh was responsible for managing all the affairs of tariqah, and received no remuneration nor accolades, but sincerely, purely, to serve Allah ﷻ. When she had free time, young Naziha would run to the house of Grandshaykh Abdullah ﻖ and attend his associations.

Before his passing, Grandshaykh Abdullah ﻖ asked Shaykh Nazim ﻖ for youthful Naziha’s hand on behalf of Shaykh Hisham Kabbani, who was a student in the American University of Beirut at the time, in early 1969. After consulting their daughter, Shaykh Nazim ﻖ and Hajjah Amina ﻖ accepted the bethrothal by reciting Fatiha. However, due to Shaykh Hisham’s university studies, the marriage did not take place for six months.

Hajjah Naziha has traveled the world—Europe, the Middle East, the Far East, North and South America, even Alaska—with her parents and husband. And wherever she has landed, Hajjah Naziha has worked to revive the faith of the people she visits by conducting dhikr, speaking and bringing people back into touch with their spiritual selves. She has observed many people, cultures, and personal situations, and advises women around the world in a wide array of fields and subjects.

Hajjah Naziha has been part of the households of four saintly scholars, and through her diligence and constant association has become a scholar and advisor herself. Before his passing, Grandshaykh Abdullah ﻖ informed Hajjah Naziha that it was Allah’s decree that she be a teacher for women, and this is what has come to pass. May Allah ﷻ shower her and her family with blessings evermore, and grant them long life and good health.
