Haqa’iq – Realities

We have explained the six realities within each human heart: haqiqat al-jazbah, haqiqat al-fayd, haqiqat at-tawajjuh, haqiqat at-tawassul, haqiqat al-irshaad, haqiqat at-ta’i.

Haqiqat at-tawajjuh is the secret of:

وَمِنْ حَيْثُ خَرَجْتَ فَوَلِّ وَجْهَكَ شَطْرَ الْمَسْجِدِ الْحَرَامِ وَإِنَّهُ لَلْحَقُّ مِن رَّبِّكَ وَمَا اللّهُ بِغَافِلٍ عَمَّا تَعْمَلُونَ

wa min haythu kharajta fa- walloo wajhaka shatra al-masjid il-haraam.

From whencesoever Thou startest forth, turn Thy face in the direction of the sacred Mosque; that is indeed the truth from the Lord. And Allah is not unmindful of what ye do. [2:149]
And we can understand it by combining it with  fa aynama takoonoo fa thamma wajhAllah.

وَلِلّهِ الْمَشْرِقُ وَالْمَغْرِبُ فَأَيْنَمَا تُوَلُّواْ فَثَمَّ وَجْهُ اللّهِ إِنَّ اللّهَ وَاسِعٌ عَلِيمٌ

To Allah belong the east and the West: Whithersoever ye turn, there is the presence of Allah. For Allah is all-Pervading, all-Knowing. [2:115]

If you put these two verses together you find that the Ka`ba is where you direct your face and where Allah is present.

What is Masjid al-Haraam? It is most sacred of all mosques, where sins are prohibited.

The Reality of directing your face, sirr at-tawajjuh, is where there is no sin going to be committed. That is haqiqat at-tawajjuh.

It means the reality that you are only allowed to direct your face to where no one can commit sin there. Other than that it is forbidden to direct your face anywhere else. The Masjid al-Haraam is where you are prohibited to make any sort of sin.

So you must be in a sacred journey at all times, as if you are facing Allah, as if you are facing the Ka`bah. Your journey cannot be on MTV; it cannot be in movie theatres. It cannot be on wasting time if you really want to reach that reality.

If you don’t want to reach that reality it is ok. But  if you want to say “I am a disciple, a mureed,” then you must follow this way. You cannot say, “I am a student” and then do whatever you like to do.

Then you are a student but a student who is ignorant – jahl. That is opposite of knowledge `ilm, and knowledge is the opposite of ignorance.

There is jahlun baseet wa jahlan muraqqab. Simple ignorance and compound ignorance. They tell you “do you want simple interest or compound interest?” All these houses you are buying are through compound interest. These are shark loans, loan sharks. They are cheating. They tell you “you are paying interest for the first five years.” That like is simple ignorance and compound ignorance.

Simple ignorance is when you have ignorance in things. You don’t know everything that you are doing in your life. You are ignorant. In science, in business, in trading, in how to direct your life.

But compound ignorance is when you are ignorant in Allah’s Way. That is dangerous. That is compound ignorance. That accumulates. Because it is written if you are ignorant in business, ok. If you are ignorant in plumbing, who cares? If you are ignorant in planting fields, who cares?  But if you are ignorant in Allah’s Way then it is written as a sin, two sins, three sins, four sins, ten sins, one hundred sins, etc., becoming compound ignorance So when you have compound ignorance/interest it means you know that you are doing something wrong but you still insist in doing it.

Simple ignorance is you are doing something wrong but it doesn’t t count, because it is related to the دنيا. If I don’t know how to make a chair it is ok, but if I don’t know how to pray that is dangerous.

So when you achieve the ten levels of mureed and then you achieve the two levels of haqiqat: haqiqat al-jazbah و haqiqat al-fayd, and Allah bestows on you all these decorations this rainbow of beautiful colors, then he is directing you to his face. Fa ayna ma tuwallu fa thamma wajhAllah. Then you are dressed with heavenly dresses. That is why saints (أولياء), when they move anywhere they are connected with the Divine Presence. Not like common people.

We are explaining what أولياء are experiencing, we did not yet experience what they experienced or else we would be أولياء.

لذا haqiqat at-tawajjuh is when He bestows on you, you become like an ayahayatun min ayaatillah – a Sign of God moving on earth. When you move on earth with that power, if you are directing yourself to Allah’s Face, by Allah’s permission and power and by Prophet’s power and permission it means you can reach anyone by telepathy. You reach from your heart to his heart. Because now you are dressed with that power. Allah is dressing you. So you look at your followers guiding them through their lives. There is an order on أولياء, a heavenly order coming from the Prophet (s), to look at their mureeds at least three times a day.

And when they look at you they have to navigate. Today they say “you navigate onthe Internet.” There are also أولياء navigating the heavenly Internet. Wherever they want to direct their mureeds, they must navigate them three times a day and there are higher and higher levels than that.

One example of that, when my brother and me were very young, but we went to Damascus, from Beirut from Damascus. So one day my mother got very upset. She said you need to study, you need to.. So she said, “don’t go.” But we were young and you know young people they don’t listen. And the Prophet (s) said “Heaven is under the feet of the mothers.”

One time the Prophet (s) said, “Look after your father, your father, your father, then your mother.”

So the father is the pillar in Islam becauase when he is gone the house falls apart. The father is important as the pillar, abuka thumma abuka thumma abuka, thumma ummuk.

There are three pillars and one mother. Then he (s) said, “Paradise is under the feet of the mothers” to show that without that fourth pillar you cannot enter Paradise. That means without the fourth you cannot complete the building – it will fall.

فَلاَ تَقُل لَّهُمَآ أُفٍّ وَلاَ تَنْهَرْهُمَا وَقُل لَّهُمَا قَوْلاً كَرِيمًا

Wa la taqulu lahuma uffin wa la tanharhuma wa qul lahuma qawlan kareema.

say not to them a word of contempt (oof), nor repel them, but address them in terms of honour.[17:23]

What do we say to them now?

The Prophet (s) said, “If you are Muslim and your parents are not Muslim you are obliged to take them to the church.”

So you take them to the door and wait for them to finish praying. This is Islam. What are you doing today? Allahu Akbar! So that is not to say to them “oof“even.

So we were young. What of “oof.” We said more than “oof.” We left and went to Grandshaykh. My mother was not laughing. We arrived and we went up. You have to pass a hallway and then the doorway to enter the house. So usually the door is closed and they have to call someone to open the door.

We were about to knock when Shaykh Abdullah al-Fa’izi ad-Daghestani opened the door.  Immediately he said, “Go back to where you came. Don’t come here from making your mother angry.”

Grandshaykh was not like Mawlana Shaykh Nazim, laughing and smiling. When he the majestic تجلي dresses him you run away. We ran away. Back all the way, driving five hours.

We went home, made our mother happy, and everything was ok. Then we went the next day to Grandshaykh. Haqiqat at-tawajjuh. This time we knocked.

This time it was ok, he was not kicking us out. He sent his servant who opened the door. So we knocked. The previous time he showed no need to knock – “I know you are coming.”

We came in. He said,” I am telling you this secret for mercy for you. We have been authorized by the Prophet (s) to look at their mureeds at least three times a day in 24 hours. And when they look at them they don’t give them sweets, candies to make them feel happy. To make someone happy is easy. But we look at them to create for them difficulties and we check ho much they are patient on these difficulties. They can carry it or not. They carry it we carry from them their burdens and present them clean. If they don’t carry it we also ask on their behalf forgiveness, in order to keep them clean.”

This is the way the Shaykh looks at the heart of the mureed; he gives a test and then sees the reaction. If the reaction is going to be angry then he failed; if it is submission and accepting then he will be raised up.

How many times a day we are facing difficulties? Be sure every time you face a difficulty, to remember, Allah is testing me, my Prophet is observing me,  my Shaykh is watching me now, he is testing me now. What do I have to react now? Remember at that time that I am looking at what you are doing.

“I was seeing you when you were fighting and arguing with your mother. What would you have lost if you said ‘sorry we will stay and study?’”

He is bringing up what happened and we were five hours drive distance from him. How did he see it?

This happened with me.

When they send difficulty be sure to say, “Now may Shaykh is looking at me, how will I keep myself, moving like a windmill, when the wind comes it turns.”

Be like a pine tree. Winter and summer it is green. Not like a cracker, when you make like this it breaks. Who is a cracker raise your hand?

So with a simple test, you get upset. Yesterday Fulan it was a simple test for him, he blew up. Because yesterday he blew up.

If he did not blow up he would have been raised up, ten times more from his level by Mawlana Shaykh. Because أولياء send all kinds of test in different ways, it is like a puzzle. Fulan was also angry yesterday, saying to himself, “Why is he speaking and I am not speaking?” Competition. Competition is good in Islam, because whoever does more worship takes more.

لذا haqiqat at-tawajjuh, after the Shaykh reached the level of mureed and these chars begin to open as I gave the example of student of Sayyidina Jamaluddin al-Ghumuqi al-Husayni. When he was opening the six powers to his heart and the mureed was rising.

Haqiqat at-tawajjuh will be given the power of reaching, first level of sainthood, and at that time he can reach haqiqat al-arwaah. We explained haqiqat al-quloob, haqiqat al-asraar, haqiqat al-arwaah.

When the fragrance comes that fayd comes then you can direct that nice fragrance, through haqiqat al-fayd, then you can guide whom you want to the way that Allah wants them to reach.

So the Shaykh will begin to communicate with his mureed. That mureed will begin to have a receiver and wherever the Shaykh begins to guide him, he will pick up on it. He begins his journey, fa ayna ma takoon fa thamma wajhAllah fa ayna ma kunta fa Walla wajhaka shatra al- masjid al-haraam. When you reach haqiqat at-tawajjuh. You can communicate with anyone you want. Without a cellular phone.

I was one day seeing this. There was a Shaykh in Damascus Ahmad al-Haroon, very famous his مقام in Damascus. He has a mureed in Aleppo 500 miles away. He was sitting with his followers and he needs something from that follower, this is a story I am speaking from 50 years ago. No telephones available at that time, not cell, not landlines. They need to send a message to that mureed to tell him to being what the Shaykh needs.

So Shaykh Ahmad al-Haroun opened his belt, lifted to his mouth and said, “Hello, you Ahmad I want you here now, you bring that book that I need.” He “hung up” his belt.

Five hours passed and then, knock, knock. They opened the door; that mureed was there. “O my Shaykh you called me and I brought you the book.” How did Shaykh Ahmad al-Haroun do that? You telecommunicate, with ear connection.

They hear you. That is simple; that is basic. They don’t look at such things; they look more at knowledge, that is more important.

When you establish that they give you a higher level, haqiqat al- tawassul, Reality of intercession. They dress you with reality that you can intercede, inheriting from the Prophet (s) that secret as much as you can take. That depends on your container as much as your heart can carry. Even if you take a drop, all أولياء will take from that drop. The ocean of the Prophet’s intercession is an ocean.

That drop is like an ocean for them. It is enough to drown the whole world. All awliya are swimming in that one drop of intercession.

Think how much power Allah gave to the Prophet (s) for intercession on Judgment Day. All awliya are swimming in that drop and to them it is an ocean. What do you think then of the Prophet (s)? We are still babies in Pampers. To understand knowledge of awliya that they are swimming in a drop, you cannot understand them.

How are you going to understand the Reality of Sayyidina Muhammad?

Today they write books on the Prophet (s), `ilm al-awraaq. Knowledge of papers. So that drop which all أولياء are swimming in it as an ocean they might give you for all the mureeds and all the mureeds swim in that drop like an ocean. That is why he said, wa kullu min rasulullahi multamisan – all أولياء are taking from Rasulullah and from they are only taking a drop and that drop they are taking to us is an ocean.

So they dress you with the fourth power now, intercession. Haqiqat at- tawassul. The Reality of intercession means when they do sajda, where he will not raise his head until his mureed has clearance from the rest.

You cannot work in government without clearance in order to see classified material. You need clearance to go to classified immaterial in spirituality. That clearance must come from being clean. You must have a clean CV, a clean background. They clean you through that sajda. In that sajda they bring all the followers and clean them and present them to the Prophet (s). That is the Reality of interceding for their followers.

One day one of the big awliya, Ubaidullah al-Ahrar, has a mureed and that mureed reached that kind of level. He passed the ten levels of mureed and became a real mureed.

There are three levels in الطريقة:

Muhib is lover.

Musta`id is prepared, ready.

mureed, disciple.

So that mureed was ready.

Allah first opens to the person at the level of mureed three realities (haqa’iq). He was in the station of the Reality of Intercession and in that reality he saw that his Shaykh is written from the people of hellfire. He was amazed. “My Shaykh is written from the people of hellfire. Might be he is doing something I don’t know.”

First Shaytan comes to the mind, “How is your Shaykh written from hellfire?” That is why sometimes the mureed sees something from the shaykhs and says “O that is wrong, that is bid`ah. O that is innovation!” They don’t give the good thought; if you don’t understand something from the Shaykh say to yourself, “I am not yet in that position.” But Shaytan is on their minds to dig it out until he gets out a bad smell.

So that mureed saw in the Preserved Tablets (Lawh al-Mahfoudh) that the Shaykh is in hellfire. He loves his Shaykh, so he thought, “it might be did something wrong.” He didn’t think, “If he did something wrong, how would I be able to see the Preserved Tablets?”

He went into sajda and every night every day asked, “O my lord, take him from hellfire, take him to Paradise.”

So one day he raised his head after one year making this supplication. He saw his shaykh’s name had been removed from hellfire and is taken to paradise. He was very happy, “O I achieved my goal.”

He went to his Shaykh to tell him good news. Look, the arrogance.

He went to the door of the Shaykh, and all the mureeds were there, sitting in أدب, majestic. Now today we don’t, we are not mukallafeen. We are babies pampered. You have pampers here, diapers. Everyone has perhaps ten diapers together.

So as soon as he entered, the Shaykh with a very majestic sitting and he entered and the Shaykh looked at him and said, If you don’t go back and return my name to where it was before I will break you in half and you will not be my follower. Don’t return until you change it back.

He saw his sickness. If they give the mureed a little karaamah they think themselves higher than the Shaykh.

So he went one year, sajda in the morning and one in the evening. It took him one year, to bring his Shaykh back to hellfire he was always in sajda. And it took one week. He was so happy he saw his Shaykh’s name in hellfire.

He went to the Shaykh and the Shaykh was sitting, with his mureeds and they were all in perfect discipline; not like today. The Shaykh told him, “I am 25 years old when I reached the level you reached today. I saw my name in hellfire. I saw my name there but I keep worshipping. Hell is for me paradise if He put me there. It is His Will that has to move. 25 years I am seeing it there and I never asked for it to be changed.”

Look how much أولياء submission is so great. He said, “All these 25 years I am doing for You, for my mureeds. I am able to ask Allah to take my name out from the people of hell, but if He wants to put me there I am happy.”

Abayazid al-Bistami asked Allah to be put in hell with a body to fill all of it. And he accepted that.

Then when you reach that achievement they will give him a candy. You give him a real candy, not a child candy. They give you a diamond candy. Haqiqat at-tai.

يَوْمَ نَطْوِي السَّمَاء كَطَيِّ السِّجِلِّ لِلْكُتُبِ كَمَا بَدَأْنَا أَوَّلَ خَلْقٍ نُّعِيدُهُ

Yawma natwi as-sama’i ka ta’i is sijjli li’l-kutubi.

The Day that We roll up the heavens like a scroll rolled up for books…[21:104]

Allah says “we fold the heavens as the scroll of a book.” They become small. That Reality of Folding Space (ta’i), of being able to roll up/to shrink, will be given to you and be dressed on you and that mureed will be able to scroll all over the world, by the means of bismillah ir-rahman ir-raheem.

That is haqiqat at-tai. They can move in space, as they like when they are given that diamond. Because they suffered a lot Allah is generous with them. Because they suffered. They can take the spirit out of the cage of the body. The cage is heavy pulled by gravity. The spirit is light, it is heavenly. They take their soul out and put the body in the spirit. The spirit is like a rocket, a plane. It moves the body faster than the speed of light. The speed of mind, it is higher than the speed of light. As soon as you think of some thing you are there.

Light moves at 300 km/sec. That is fikr, tafkeer, thought, muraqabah.

The thought is more clean, when there is nothing to disrupt it. Then it moves with a very huge speed, more than the speed of light. You think now, in one second “I am on the sun.” The speed of the heart is far stronger. The way to move through the heart is faster. We don’t speak now.

Now you are here in your home and [at the same time you are ] in Makkah, they move. They come and say, “You were in Makkah.” You will say, “No I was here in the house.” They say “You were in India.” You say, “No I did not go to India.” That is moving they can move to 12,000 places at a time. That is high-level أولياء. Low-level أولياء can move and appear in one or two places at the same time.

And when they move through oceans of knowledge they move their followers also.

You know when wild geese migrate, in big quantities. In teams, flocks. And they move for days and nights, for months, from one continent to another continent. So the Shaykh will move and move his mureeds with him in flocks. He cannot leave his mureeds behind when he comes forward to the presence of the Prophet (s). Where are your mureeds? I gave to you for those behind you. Wali without people is not wali. Prophet (s) without Ummah is where?

So you have to bring your team, your flock with you. So that is why the Prophet (s) not only is his Ummah coming for intercession, but from Adam and all Prophet (s)s go to him. Every human being is his Ummah.

That haqiqat at-tai moves and moves mountains in space.

Don’t think “that is too much.” Today they sent the space shuttle. How many tons does it weigh? It is 25,000 tons and they are moving it in space, all metal and it is going up.

When you think about أولياء power, if this is normal people’s power.

What do you think, if that is the Reality of scrolling universes? For them they scroll universes of knowledge. That will take us to the last one, which is haqiqat al-irshaad – the Reality of Guidance.

When they dress you with all these realities, now they give you final one, you can now guide people. You speak and it is your ego speaking. People come and sit and listen to lecturers, that is an ego lecturer speaking.

After you have been dressed with these five levels then you can guide someone to his eternal life. Everyone has a different eternal life.

What ever Allah has planned for that individual, the Shaykh will guide you step by step to take by the hand and move you forward.

You will be like someone in a maze who can never find the door out.

You will be lost. But the guidance will take you left, right, right, left straight until you come out. Not everyone knows how to get out of the maze. You have to have a guide for you to escape from a maze; to get out of the tunnel he must have all kinds of flashlight and spotlights in order to pass easily.

We end here in order to complete the explanation of these different characteristics what we have explained. That is enough. That guidance is what we say today knowledge of spirituality. Spiritual knowledge is how to heal you from all kinds of worldly attachments and to take you up to heavenly attachments in order that you will be able to penetrate thru space out and to your final destination.

Because in Day of Promises qaalu balaa, they said, “yes,” [in response to Allah’s question, “Am I not your Lord?”] The Shaykh guides you thru that “yes” You don’t know it now. No one knows. Allah says “Do you remember that day?” He called us on that day and asked us “Am I not your Lord?” The day of covenants (Yawm al-`ahdi wal- meethaaq). When Allah took from us a covenant an oath on what we have to do. It was written what you accepted on that today. You have to know that is irshaad. The day they will open for you what you have accepted and took as an oath on the Day of Promises in front of Allah when the souls were together in His Presence but [before that] you have to fulfill these requirements. Like a PhD. You cannot [just] say, “I want a PhD.” You have to go through different studies and universities to get a PhD.

When we speak of irshaad it is not as people speak of irshaad. Irshaad is to guide you to what you have promised your Lord in order to fulfill what we promised.

إِنَّا عَرَضْنَا الْأَمَانَةَ عَلَى السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَالْجِبَالِ فَأَبَيْنَ أَن يَحْمِلْنَهَا وَأَشْفَقْنَ مِنْهَا وَحَمَلَهَا الْإِنسَانُ إِنَّهُ كَانَ ظَلُومًا جَهُولًا

Inna aradna al amaanats `ala as-samaawaati wa ‘l-ardi wa ‘l-jibaali fa abayna an yahmilnaaha wa ashfaqna minha wa hamalaha al-insanu innahu kaana dhalooman jahoola.

“Lo! We offered the trust unto the heavens and the earth and the hills, but they shrank from bearing it and were afraid of it. And man assumed it. Lo! he hath proved a tyrant and a fool.” [33:72]

Heavens and earth and mountains said “it is too much; we don’t accept.” But mankind took it, he was ignorant an oppressor to himself.

So what they are trying to show you, through these ten levels to achieve the level of mureed, is that as soon as you climb up then you reach the Reality of Guidance and then you can see what kind of oath you took and then that will be your journey now to your reality. Then they will dress you with guidance and give your permission. Until then you are like a toy that speaks, like a parrot. This is today scholars and lecturers. That is not irshaad. Irshaad is only for أولياء.
