Ya ayyuhalladheena aamanoo ati\u2018ullaha wa ati\u2018u \u2019r-Rasula wa uli\u2019l-amri minkum. \u2013 \u201cO ye who believe; obey Allah (swt), obey Prophet (s), and obey those in authority among you.\u201d<\/i>\u00a0[4:59]<\/p>\n
And we hope that we will be obedient to Allah and His Prophet (s), and to our shuyukh, because we don\u2019t want to claim something that we don\u2019t have.<\/p>\n
There are people who claim that they know something.\u00a0 There are people who claim to know too many things.\u00a0 There are people who know \u201ceverything.\u201d\u00a0 And they have appointed themselves as shaykhs although they are far from being shaykhs.\u00a0 The level of a shaykh is very difficult to attain.\u00a0 So we must not claim something that we do not have.\u00a0 Allah said in Holy Quran,<\/p>\n

huwa a\u2018lamu bikum\u2026 wa idh antum ajinnatun fee butooni ummahatikum fa laa tuzakkoo anfusakum huwa a\u2018lamu bi mani \u2019ttaqa \u2013 \u201cHe knows you well \u2026<\/i>and when ye are hidden in your mothers\u2019 wombs. Therefore justify not yourselves: He knows best who it is that guards against evil.\u201d<\/i>\u00a0[53:32]<\/p>\n
Don\u2019t praise yourself, or don\u2019t claim something for yourself that you don\u2019t have.\u00a0 There are people who if they get a degree from a university, not even a PhD, they think that they control the world.\u00a0 There are people even who get PhD\u2019s, and they think that they control the world.\u00a0 And there are people who think, if they follow a saint\u2014a real shaykh\u2014they think that they know everything.\u00a0 And they begin to spread the contamination of their egos, because their ego is proud, so they spread this sickness around the murids, without knowing.\u00a0 And there are people, if they enter seclusion, and they come out, they think of themselves that they became saints, and their names must be printed and published in lights to show that they are saints and people must listen to them.<\/p>\n
We must know that if we follow a shaykh as a murid, and if we get some advantage of learning from the shaykh, or we enter seclusion, still we are nothing, and still we are in a training process.\u00a0 We have not yet eliminated our sicknesses and illnesses.\u00a0 Still we have to be put in quarantine in order that after the quarantine you can be let out to be with people.<\/p>\n
Some people, if they are the imam of a masjid, they think that they control all the Muslims.\u00a0 Some people are responsible for a school or university, and they think that they are controlling everyone.\u00a0 They don\u2019t feel that they are nothing.\u00a0 If someone knows how to do zikr, and he sits and begins to do zikr, he thinks of himself that he is going to spread spirituality all over people\u2014he doesn\u2019t know that he is still contaminated with pride and arrogance.<\/p>\n
Authorization is important in Islam, in\u00a0Shari\u2018ah<\/i>, in\u00a0tariqah<\/i>.\u00a0 We call this permission \u2013 \u00a0ijazah \u2013\u00a0<\/i>in Arabic.\u00a0 It means a transmission of authorization of a candidate who has studied with shaykhs, from shaykh to shaykh to shaykh to shaykh, until one of the four imams.\u00a0 This is in\u00a0Shari\u2018ah<\/i>.\u00a0 He has to have it\u2014like today they have in universities PhD\u2019s in Islamic\u00a0Shari\u2018ah<\/i>.\u00a0 THIS HAS NO VALUE compared to the old teachings of\u00a0Shari\u2018ah<\/i>.\u00a0 Because the old teachings of\u00a0Shari\u2018ah<\/i>\u00a0has to have a direct transmission from your shaykh to his shaykh to his grandshaykh to his grandshaykh, to Imam Shafi\u2018i.\u00a0 He has to be connected like that.\u00a0 And Imam Shafi\u2018i\u2014from which one of the Tabi\u2018een did he take instruction? And that one, from which Companion did he take instruction? It has to have this lineage.<\/p>\n
Or this lineage can go to Imam Abu Hanifa or Imam Ahmad Ibn Hanbal.\u00a0 Or Imam Malik.\u00a0 It has to have a chain of transmission.\u00a0 Or else his\u00a0ijazah<\/i>\u00a0is null, does not count.<\/p>\n
In\u00a0tariqa<\/i>, it is the same.\u00a0 In spirituality.\u00a0 In the reality of the soul, of the\u00a0ruh<\/i>; in the learning of\u00a0ma\u2019rifah<\/i>, Gnosticism.\u00a0 This learning\u00a0has to be\u00a0through a lineage, a\u00a0silsilah<\/i>, a chain of shaykhs.\u00a0 From one shaykh to his shaykh to his grandshaykh, grand grandshaykh, grand grand grandshaykh and so on, until it reaches either Sayyidina Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (ra) or Sayyidina \u2018Ali (ra), because from them came\u00a0tariqah<\/i>, the 41\u00a0tariqas<\/i>.\u00a0 They all came from either Sayyidina Abu Bakr (ra) or from Sayyidina \u2018Ali (ra).\u00a0 They lead directly to the heart of the Prophet\u00a0(s).\u00a0 If that lineage is not there, it means that person who thinks himself authorized\u2014his authorization is null.\u00a0 No one can say and claim that Prophet (s) came to me in a dream, or Prophet (s) came to me in this, or I went in that and saw myself having authorization, in this or that.\u00a0 That is not accepted.<\/p>\n
There are, today, shaykhs who think of themselves because they had a dream or they slept and woke up, or they saw something, that they have become authorized.\u00a0 If that is the case, it was better for Prophet Sayyidina Muhammad (s) to be authorized through a dream or a vision.\u00a0 But it did not happen like that.\u00a0 He was in need of Sayyidina Jibreel\u00a0(as).<\/p>\n
Sayyidina Muhammad (s), for 40 years, was making seclusion,\u00a0khalwah<\/i>,\u00a0suluk<\/i>, in\u00a0Ghaari Hira<\/i>, and he was in need\u2026\u00a0 He never said, \u201cI am seeing this, I am praying to Allah, I am making\u00a0sajda<\/i>\u00a0to Allah,\u201d\u00a0until\u00a0Jibreel (as) came to him and gave to him, physically.\u00a0 It cannot be by dreams! It cannot be in a coma! It cannot be by fainting.\u00a0 It cannot be by any means except physical.\u00a0 It has to be given.<\/p>\n
And we are following the footsteps of the Prophet\u00a0(s).\u00a0 It was given to Prophet\u00a0(s)\u2014from Allah (swt) to Jibreel (as), from Jibreel\u00a0(as) to Prophet\u00a0(s).\u00a0 It has a chain of transmission.<\/p>\n
If we think that everything comes by dream, it is okay.\u00a0 But why did Prophet (s) not take his message by dream? Or why did Prophet (s) not take his message in a coma,\u00a0haasha<\/i>? Or why did Prophet (s) not take his message by means of a different way without physical means?<\/p>\n
He saw Jibreel (as) physically! Jibreel (as) hugged him.\u00a0 He said,\u00a0Bismillahi \u2019r-Rahmani \u2019r-Rahim<\/i>, with the message of Islam, \u201cIqra\u2019.<\/i>\u201d\u00a0\u00a0Iqra bismi Rabbik alladhee khalaq<\/i>.\u201d\u00a0 \u2013\u00a0\u201cRead in the name of Thy Lord Who Created.\u201d<\/i>\u00a0 He came from the horizon, covering the whole horizon \u2013 Sayyidina Jibreel (as).\u00a0 And he was coming to Prophet (s) and saying, \u201cYa Muhammad (s),\u00a0Iqra<\/i>.\u201d\u00a0 He said, \u201cwa ma ana bi qaari`?\u201d \u201cWhat am I going to read?\u201d<\/i>\u00a0He said, \u201cIqra bismi Rabbik alladhee khalaq, Khalaq al-insaana min \u2018alaq.\u00a0 Iqra\u2019 wa Rabbuk al-Akram, Alladhee \u2018allama bi \u2019l-qalam, \u2018allama \u2019l-insaana ma lam ya\u2018lam.\u201d<\/i>\u00a0\u00a0Read!) in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created- Created man, out of a (mere) clot of congealed blood: Proclaim! And thy Lord is Most Bountiful,- He Who taught (the use of) the pen,- Taught man that which he knew not.\u00a0<\/i>[96:5]\u00a0Physically.<\/i>\u00a0 He taught him.<\/p>\n
In Ramadan the Prophet\u00a0(s) used to learn Quran from Jibreel (as).\u00a0 The hadith of Prophet\u00a0(s),\u00a0kaana yatadarras al-Qur\u2019an ma\u2018 Jibreel<\/i>.\u00a0 \u201cHe used to study the Qur`an with Jibreel.\u201d So the Prophet\u00a0(s) needed a physical revelation,\u00a0wahiyy<\/i>, from Allah (swt).\u00a0 Allah (swt) sent him Jibreel (as).<\/p>\n
So how do we claim today, some people, all over the world, that they have seen a dream, or were ordered by a dream.\u00a0 Yes, this is okay.\u00a0 If you have been ordered to do something, you do it.\u00a0 But what you are doing is limited.\u00a0 It does not have a backup.\u00a0 It does not have someone supporting it from behind.\u00a0 Without support, at one time it will break, finished.\u00a0 It is gone.<\/p>\n
Even when he came with the message, Jibreel (as) trained the Prophet (s), he brought him up, he sent him the message from Allah (swt).\u00a0 After two years, he was sent to him physically.\u00a0 All the time when he came, Jibreel (as) used to come\u00a0physically\u00a0from Allah (swt), bringing the revelation.\u00a0 Prophet (s) never said, \u201cI received the revelation by dream.\u201d\u00a0 Never did Prophet (s) say, \u201cI got the Qur\u2019an by dream.\u201d\u00a0 Prophet (s) was getting the Qur\u2019an by revelation through Jibreel (as).\u00a0 And\u00a0Dhikrullah<\/i>\u00a0is taken out of Qur`an, the Beautiful Names of Allah.\u00a0 So to do the dhikr, it has to be physically through a teacher.\u00a0 You cannot say, \u201cI don\u2019t need a teacher! I don\u2019t need a guide!\u201d Allah made Jibreel a guide to Prophet (s).<\/p>\n
And within two years after Prophet\u2019s (s) delivering the message, Allah called Prophet (s) to His Presence.\u00a0 So Jibreel (as) had to bring him physically to\u00a0Lailatu \u2019l-Isra\u2019i wa \u2019l-Mi\u2018raaj<\/i>.\u00a0 Like this month, we are in\u00a0Lailatu \u2019l-Isra\u2019i wa \u2019l-Mi\u2018raj<\/i>.\u00a0 He brought him physically, and He gave him a vehicle,\u00a0al-buraaq<\/i>.\u00a0 Prophet (s) was able to go without a\u00a0buraaq<\/i>.\u00a0 Prophet (s) was able to see the Ascension by dream, without his body going up.\u00a0\u00a0But, the Night of Ascension was with his body.\u00a0 His soul went to Allah\u2019s Presence.\u00a0 It means that physically you need a teacher to teach you and guide you as Prophet (s) needed the\u00a0buraaq<\/i>, and needed Jibreel (as), to take him to the Divine Presence.<\/p>\n
There is real fresh fruit, and there is plastic fruit.\u00a0 Real fruit has a taste, that when you eat, you feel the sweetness of the fruit.\u00a0 Plastic fruit, or made from paper\u2014still you can eat the paper, but it has no taste.\u00a0 Still you can eat the plastic, but it has no taste.\u00a0 So\u00a0Dhikrullah<\/i>\u00a0with a shaykh that has been authorized through a chain of saints to Prophet (s)\u2014that\u00a0dhikr<\/i>\u00a0has a taste.\u00a0 That\u00a0Dhikrullah<\/i>, every one of\u00a0Asmullah ul-Husna<\/i>\u2014The Beautiful Names and Attributes of Allah\u2014they will be dressed on you from the secret of these Names.\u00a0 You will get the appearances, and Allah will bestow His mercy on that person when he is reciting, because he is connected, through his heart, through his shaykh, to grandshaykh, and so on until either Sayyidina Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (ra) or Sayyidina \u2018Ali (ra), and then to Prophet (s).<\/p>\n
The other shaykh, who considers himself a shaykh but without authorization or without a lineage, who is claiming of himself that he is a shaykh\u2014his\u00a0dhikr<\/i>\u00a0will have no sweetness.\u00a0 One day he is going to disappear.<\/p>\n
Allah (swt) gave a characteristic to Prophet (s) that He didn\u2019t give to\u00a0anyone\u00a0else.\u00a0 Humbleness.\u00a0\u00a0Sayyidina<\/i>\u00a0Muhammad (s) was the\u00a0most humble.\u00a0 When you are humble, you will get spiritual knowledge.\u00a0 When you are arrogant and proud of yourself, you will be thrown away like those with degrees who got them by studying Islamic Studies in universities, but with no spirit, no soul\u2014there is no sweetness or taste in it.\u00a0 They are learning letters that are collected together.\u00a0 On the other hand, the\u00a0\u2018Arif billah\u2014<\/i>the Gnostic, he doesn\u2019t learn letters.\u00a0 But his teacher teaches him what is the interpretation and the secrets behind these letters.\u00a0 So he will begin to extract meanings that no one can extract.\u00a0 And all of this is done by humbleness.\u00a0 Arrogance\u2014you will be like Iblis.\u00a0 Iblis is arrogant.\u00a0 So don\u2019t be arrogant.\u00a0 Be humble.\u00a0 When you humble yourself, people love you.\u00a0 When people love you, your shaykh will bring you toward him.\u00a0 When he brings you closer to him, he takes you through the lineage to reach to Prophet\u2019s (s) love and vision.<\/p>\n
There was a king to whom was sent a slave\u2014kings in that time used to have slaves.\u00a0 People used to buy slaves from different countries around the world.\u00a0 It was something that was like a trade, in one period of time.\u00a0 So they gave the king a gift, a slave.\u00a0 But he was a nice servant, if you don\u2019t want to say slave.\u00a0 So the king was asking him some questions.\u00a0 He asked him when they presented that servant to him, \u201cWhat is your name?\u201d He said, \u201cO my master, a slave doesn\u2019t have a name.\u00a0 Whatever his master calls him, he has to respond.\u00a0 Before you I had many masters.\u00a0 And every master used to call me by a different name.\u00a0 My job is to answer you.\u00a0 My job was to answer them.\u201d\u00a0 If someone calls me this or that or some other thing, I answer.\u00a0 My job is to answer.\u00a0 My job is not to have an identity, a name.\u00a0 I don\u2019t have a name.<\/p>\n
Then he asked him, \u201cWhat clothes do you prefer that I get for you?\u201d He said, \u201cO my master, I don\u2019t have a choice.\u00a0 In your presence I don\u2019t have a choice, and in the presence of my previous masters, I didn\u2019t have a choice.\u00a0 The slave answers what the master says.\u00a0 If my master says to me, \u2018Wear these red clothes,\u2019 I will.\u00a0 If he says, \u2018Wear these blue clothes,\u2019 I wear them.\u00a0 If green, I wear them.\u00a0 If he says to wear nothing, I won\u2019t wear anything.\u00a0 It is, what is your choice.\u00a0 It is not my choice.\u201d<\/p>\n
Listen well.<\/p>\n
He asked, \u201cWhat kind of food do you like the most?\u201d He said, \u201cO my master, whatever food they give me to eat, I eat.\u00a0 If they give me rice, I eat rice.\u00a0 If they give me bread, I eat bread, if they give me meat, I eat meat.\u00a0 If they give me grass, I eat grass.\u00a0 If they give me fruit, I eat fruit.\u00a0 No choice for me in the presence of the master.\u201d<\/p>\n
Then the king at the end said to him, \u201cO my slave, my servant, what can I do for you then?\u201d He said, \u201cO my master, does a slave have a will in front of his master? The slave is under the will of the king, the master.\u00a0 You choose what is good for me, and you give me that.\u201d<\/p>\n
And he said, \u201cO my servant, you are a real Muslim.\u00a0 And it is better for you to rule a country than me.\u00a0 You are the king, I am your supporter.\u201d\u00a0 When that servant showed no will, in any way, Allah made him the king.\u00a0 When you don\u2019t show will\u2026.\u00a0 Prophet (s) never showed a will.\u00a0 Allah made him the Seal of Messengers.\u00a0 Saints, they submitted to Allah\u2019s (swt) will and to Prophet\u2019s (s) will.\u00a0 Allah made them saints.\u00a0 When you submit yourself to the will of your teacher, then the teacher will raise you up and trust you to carry the trust of the Ummah that is under your teachings.\u00a0 So that is what is important\u2014submission.\u00a0 Not to be proud of your opinion and mind.\u00a0 That is a curse, when you are proud of your mind and opinion.\u00a0 You are a loser.<\/p>\n
Today, from arrogance, from pride, children are not accepting what parents are saying.\u00a0 Parents are not accepting what elderly people are saying.\u00a0 Everyone is running in his way or her way.\u00a0 They don\u2019t want to listen to what Islam and Qur\u2019an are saying.\u00a0 They want to listen only to what this world tells them, and to what Satan tells them, and what their bad desires are saying.<\/p>\n
Look at that young boy, what is his name? Hamdaan.\u00a0 How does he recite? How old are you? 12 years old.\u00a0 He recites better than everyone here in this room.\u00a0 He is 12 years old, and all of us are 70, 80, 90, 60, 50, 40, 30.\u00a0 This world is not in his heart.\u00a0 Others, Allah gave them\u2014instead of learning how to recite like him, they are learning how to recite songs, MTV, video clips, discotheques, running after crazy women, artists, actresses\u2014this is the lifestyle of a very young boy raised in Allah\u2019s obedience.\u00a0 He is going to be under the shade of Allah\u2019s Throne on Judgment Day.<\/p>\n
Prophet (s) said, \u201cSeven will be under Allah\u2019s shade on Judgment Day,\u201d when the sun is going to burn the brains of everyone.\u00a0 Allah will give seven groups shade.\u00a0 One of them is the \u201cwaladun nasha \u2018ala ta\u2018atillah<\/i>,\u201d \u201ca child who was raised in obedience to Allah.\u201d\u00a0 The other, the\u00a0walad<\/i>\u00a0who never said even\u00a0oof<\/i>\u00a0to his mother or father in his life.\u00a0 Allah (swt) will give him shade.<\/p>\n
Rich people today, or middle-income people, are running after dirty things, and such boys with nothing, are running after obedience to God.\u00a0 Instead of giving the rich people to run after Allah\u2019s obedience, it is the opposite.<\/p>\n
But we still say, Allah (swt) always is merciful.\u00a0 And Allah (swt) has said to His Prophet\u00a0(s),<\/p>\n

wa maa arsalnaaka illa Rahmatan lil-\u2018aalameen<\/i>. \u2013\u00a0\u00a0\u201cWe have not sent you except as a mercy to humanity.\u201d<\/i>\u00a0[21:107]<\/p>\n
