Those that are found in every year after the days of Ramadan are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the Day of `Arafa [= 9th of Dhu \u2018l-Hijja]<\/li>\n<li>the Day of `Ashura\u2019 [= 10th of Muharram]<\/li>\n<li>the first Ten Days of Dhu\u00a0\u2018l-Hijja<\/li>\n<li>the first ten days of Muharram<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>And all the sacred months are preferred for fasting\u2026 and they are: Dhu\u00a0\u2018l-Qi`da, Dhu\u00a0\u2018l-Hijja, Muharram, and Rajab.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>`Ashura is a day of great historical significance. On this day: Allah (<em>Subhanahu wa Ta`ala<\/em>) accepted the repentance of Sayyidina Adam (\u0639)\u00a0after his exile from Paradise; Allah (\u0633) saved Sayyidina Nuh (\u0639) and his companions in the Ark; Allah extinguished the fire in which Sayyidina Ibrahim (\u0639)\u00a0was thrown by Nimrod; And Allah (<em>Subhanahu wa Ta`ala<\/em>) spoke directly to Sayyidina Musa (\u0639)\u00a0and gave him the Commandments. On this same 10th of Muharram, Sayyidina Ayyub (\u0639)\u00a0was restored to health (from leprosy); Sayyidina Yusuf (\u0639)\u00a0was reunited with his father Ya\u2019qub (\u0639); Sayyidina Yunus (\u0639)\u00a0was taken out from the belly of the fish; and the sea was divided as the nation of israel was delivered from captivity and Pharoah\u2019s army was destroyed. `Ashura is also the day when Sayyidina Dawud (\u0639)\u00a0was forgiven; the kingdom of Sulaiman (\u0639)\u00a0was restored; Sayyidina `Isa (\u0639)\u00a0was raised to Jannah and Sayyidina al-Husayn (\u0631)\u00a0(the Holy Prophet\u2019s\u00a0grandson) achieved the honor of Martyrdom.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>FIRST TEN DAYS AND NIGHTS OF\u00a0MUHARRAM<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Narrated from Ibn al-`Abbas (\u0631)\u00a0that the Prophet (\u0635) said, \u201cWhoever fasts the last day of Dhu \u2018l-Hijjah and the first day of<span>\u00a0<\/span><b>Muharram<\/b>, he completes a whole year\u2019s worth of fasting in that previous year, and Allah gives him penance for fifty [50] years.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Narrated from Anas (\u0631)\u00a0 that the Prophet (\u0635) said, \u201cWhoever fasts the first Friday of<span>\u00a0<\/span><b>Muharram<\/b><span>\u00a0<\/span>Allah will forgive his preceding sins, and whoever fasts three days of<span>\u00a0<\/span><b>Muharram<\/b><span>\u00a0<\/span>\u2013 Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, Allah will write for him worship and prayers for nine hundred [900] years.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Narrated from \u2018A`ishah Umm al-Mu\u2019minin (\u0631)\u00a0 that the Prophet (\u0635) said, \u201cWhoever fasts the first ten days up till `Ashura, he will inherit the Paradise al-Firdaws.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Fasting of `Ashura is Sunnah Mu\u2019akkadah, that which is highly desired. When the Prophet (\u0635) saw the Jews of Madinah fasting on that day, he asked them for what it was. They told him it was the day Musa (\u0639)\u00a0led the Bani Isra\u2019il from Pharaoh. The Prophet s.a.w. said, \u201cI have more rights with Musa than you Jews.\u201d So he fasted that day and ordered for its observance. This was part of a longer narration from \u2018A`ishah\u00a0(\u0631).<\/li>\n<li>The Prophet (\u0635) said, \u201cWhoever fasts the `Ashura (10th<span>\u00a0<\/span><b>Muharram<\/b>), Allah will write for him a thousand [1000] wishes and a thousand years of age, and will grant him the reward of a thousand martyrs, and will write for him the reward of Isma`il (\u0639), and writes for him seventy [70] palaces in paradise, and makes his flesh forbidden from the hellfire.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>In another Hadith the Prophet (\u0635) said, \u201cWhoever fasts the `Ashura, he will be granted the reward of a thousand angels. And whoever recites \u201c<em>Qul Huwa Allahu Ahad<\/em>\u201d a thousand [1000] times on the day of `Ashura, Allah will glance at him with the Eyes of Mercy,\u00a0and will write him from amongst the<span>\u00a0<\/span><em>Siddiqin<\/em><span>\u00a0<\/span>[The Truthful].\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0In another Hadith the Prophet (\u0635) said, \u201cDistinguish yourselves from the Jews by fasting either the day before `Ashura or the day after it as well.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Whoever prays in `Ashura four [4] sunnah<span>\u00a0<\/span><em>rak`ats<\/em><span>\u00a0<\/span>on the day of `Ashura, where after the Fatihah in each<span>\u00a0<\/span><em>rak`ah<\/em><span>\u00a0<\/span>recites \u201c<em>Qul Huwa<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/em><em>Allahu Ahad<\/em>\u201d eleven [11] times, Allah will forgive his sins of fifty years, and will build for him a pulpit from light. And whoever takes the sunnah shower on `Ashura he will not suffer sickness in that year except the illness of death, and whoever wears the\u00a0kohl on his eyes on `Ashura he will not suffer sickness on that year.<\/li>\n<li><em>Du`a<\/em><span>\u00a0<\/span>of\u00a0`Ashura: Recite \u201c<em>Hasbun Allahu wa ni`ma \u2018l-wakeel, ni`ma \u2018l-<\/em><em>Mawla wa ni`ma \u2018n-Naseer<\/em>\u201d [70 x], and recite: \u201c<em>Hasbun Allahu mila \u2018l-<\/em><em>Meezaan wa muntahaa\u00a0\u2018l-`ilma, wa mablagha \u2018r-ridaa, wa zinatu \u2018l-`arsh, laa\u00a0<\/em><span>\u00a0<\/span><em>maljaa wa laa manjaa min Allahi illa ilayhi. Subhan Allahi `adada\u00a0\u2018sh-<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/em><em>shaf`i wa \u2018l-`arshi, wa `adada kalimaati Rabbina\u00a0\u2018t-taammati kullihaa.<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/em><em>As\u2019aluka\u00a0\u2018s-salaamata bi rahmatika ya Arham ar-Rahimeen, wa laa hawla wa<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/em><em>laa quwwata illa billahi \u2018l-`Aliyyi \u2018l-`Azheem. Wa Huwa hasbee wa ni`ma \u2018l-<\/em><em>wakeel, ni`ma \u2018l-Mawla wa ni`ma \u2018n-Naseer. Wa Sallallahu `alaa Sayyidina<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/em><em>Muhammadin wa `alaa aalihi wa sahbihi ajma`in.<\/em>\u201d [7 x].<\/li>\n<li>About an hour before the<span>\u00a0<\/span><em>Adhan<\/em><span>\u00a0<\/span>for<span>\u00a0<\/span><em>Maghrib<\/em><span>\u00a0<\/span>towards `Ashura, sit facing the<span>\u00a0<\/span><em>Qiblah<\/em><span>\u00a0<\/span>and finish the daily<span>\u00a0<\/span><em>Adab<\/em><span>\u00a0<\/span>of<span>\u00a0<\/span><em>Tariqah<\/em>. And then make<span>\u00a0<\/span><em>Tawassul<\/em><span>\u00a0<\/span>with Sayyidina al-Husayn (\u0631)\u00a0and the martyrs of Karbala, where on that day they died<span>\u00a0<\/span><em>Shaheed<\/em><span>\u00a0<\/span>with Sayyidina al-Husayn (\u0631) and those who were with him, may Allah\u2019s favors be upon them. After breaking your fast dedicate the blessings and rewards of your fast and daily<span>\u00a0<\/span><em>Awrad<\/em><span>\u00a0<\/span>upon the Prophet (\u0635) for the oceans secrets that lie open on the 14th of<span>\u00a0<\/span><b>Muharram<\/b>.<\/li>\n<li><b>Muharram<\/b><span>\u00a0<\/span>is also a month of great importance to Naqshbandi. Our Master and Imam of the Tariqah Shah Naqshband (\u0642)\u00a0was born on the 14th of this month. It is thus important and most desired that the People\u00a0of the<span>\u00a0<\/span><em>Tariqah<\/em><span>\u00a0<\/span>congregate on the eve of this holy day for<span>\u00a0<\/span><em>Khatm<\/em><span>\u00a0<\/span>and<span>\u00a0<\/span><em>Dhikr<\/em>, and read the Mawlid al-Nabi (\u0635)\u00a0in dedication to Mawlana Shah Naqshband, and also reading excerpts from his saintly life.<\/li>\n<li>It is a tradition and practice of Mawlana Sultan al-Awliya Shaykh `AbdAllah al-Daghestani (\u0642) to make<span>\u00a0<\/span><em>Qurban<\/em><span>\u00a0<\/span>of two sheep on the day of `Ashura and distribute the meat to the poor and needy members of the<span>\u00a0<\/span><em>Tariqah<\/em>.
