Imam Ghazali said in\u00a0Ihya`Ulum al-Din<\/em>:<\/p>\n \u201cFasting is definitely desirable in certain meritorious days, some of them being found in every year, others in every month, and others in every week. Those that are found in every year after the days of Ramadan are:<\/p>\n And all the sacred months are preferred for fasting\u2026 and they are: `Abd Allah ibn Mas`ud said: The Prophet \ufdfa said: \u201cThere are no days in the year in which deeds are more meritorious than in the Ten\u00a0Days [i.e. the first ten days of Dhu al-Hijjah].\u201d Someone asked: \u201cNot even Jihad in the path of Allah?\u201d He replied: \u201cNot even Jihad in the path of Allah.\u201d Haythami said: \u201cTabarani narrated it in\u00a0al-Mu`jam al-kabir<\/em>\u00a0and the narrators in its chain of transmission are all those of sound (sahih<\/em>) narrations.<\/p>\n The nights are included in the mention of the days. Allah swore an oath by them when He said: \u201cBy the Dawn! By Ten Nights!<\/em>\u201d (89:1-2) and the authors of\u00a0Tafsir al-Jalalayn<\/em>\u00a0said: \u201cThey are the first ten nights of Dhul-Hijjah.\u201d<\/p>\n Abu Hafsah (r)\u00a0reported that the Prophet (s)\u00a0said:<\/p>\n \u201cFasting on the Day of\u00a0`Arafah<\/em>\u00a0absolves the sins for two years: the previous year and the coming year, and fasting on\u00a0`Ashura<\/em>, (the tenth day of\u00a0Muharram) atones for the sins of previous years.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n\n
