A disciple (murid<\/i>) of Sayyidin\u0101 Kh\u0101lid al-Baghd\u0101d\u012b \u2013 a saint of the Golden Chain who passed away some 200 years ago and is buried in Damascus \u2013 was sent to Hajj by his Shaykh.\u00a0 His Shaykh told him to look for something specific, but he did not find it when he was there.\u00a0 However, he heard that there was an unbeliever in Bombay who had miraculous powers and could do everything that you asked him to do.\u00a0 The disciple was upset: \u00a0he had been with his Shaykh dozens of years and he could not do any anything miraculous.\u00a0 How did that unbeliever, who was neither following the Way nor even following Isl\u0101m, have miraculous powers? \u201cI am going back to my Shaykh to tell him, O my Shaykh, you sent me to look for a saint, and I found an unbeliever who has miraculous powers, while we cannot do anything! What is this teaching?\u201d This is reality for us: \u00a0we come and sit with Mawl\u0101n\u0101 Shaykh N\u0101zim for hours and hours, and we are not benefiting for a reason which is coming presently.<\/p>\n
The disciple went and told his Shaykh about his doubts.\u00a0 Sayyidin\u0101 Kh\u0101lid answered, \u201cO my son, don\u2019t get the wrong impression.\u00a0 You would be making a mistake.\u00a0 I shall give you the answer tomorrow.\u201d\u00a0 That night, Sayyidin\u0101 Kh\u0101lid was in India in one second by saying \u201cIn name of God, The Merciful, The Compassionate \u2013 Bismill\u0101hi \u2018r-Rahm\u0101ni \u2018r-Rah\u012bm<\/i>.\u201d\u00a0 That is another power which Mawl\u0101n\u0101 Shaykh N\u0101zim is not using.\u00a0 The shaykhs have freed their spiritual powers from the cage of their bodies.\u00a0 Now the spirit can take the body with it, whereas before, the spirit went only where the body took it.\u00a0 They move by putting their body inside their spirit, not vice-versa: \u00a0thus travel is possible in one second, wherever the spirit goes.\u00a0 As he came to the door of that person in India, he again put back his spirit into his physical body, and thus \u201cappeared\u201d there.<\/p>\n
The man from Bombay was waiting at his door.\u00a0 He was a monk of another faith.\u00a0 He said: \u00a0\u201cO my Shaykh, I knew that you were coming through my power, and I ordered a Muslim lady to prepare a meal for you as I know that you do not eat of our food.\u201d\u00a0 They sat opposite each other.\u00a0 Before saying anything to him, Sayyidin\u0101 Kh\u0101lid al-Baghd\u0101d\u012b said to him<\/p>\n
\u201cRecite the Testification of Faith, the\u00a0shah\u0101dah,<\/i>\u00a0now.\u201d The monk sat in silence concentrating on his heart for half an hour, in meditation, while Sayyidin\u0101 Kh\u0101lid al-Baghd\u0101d\u012b did not say anything.\u00a0 After half an hour, the monk raised his head. He then said, \u201cAshhadu an la il\u0101ha illa-ll\u0101h wa ashhadu anna Muhammadur-Ras\u016blullah<\/i>.\u201d<\/p>\n
Beforethis he possessed all sorts of worldly miraculous powers; as soon as he recited the Testification of Faith, he received miraculous heavenly powers.<\/p>\n
Sayyidin\u0101 Kh\u0101lid asked him, \u201cWhy did you wait half an hour in unbelief when you knew that belief was Reality?\u201d He said: \u00a0\u201cO my Shaykh, I am very sorry, but for twenty-five years I have not done anything without asking my Shaykh.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWho is your Shaykh?\u201d<\/p>\n
He said, \u201cMy Shaykh is my ego.\u00a0For every matter, I have to ask my ego and see what it will tell me. Whatever it tells me, I do the opposite, for I know the ego is only seeking destruction of the soul. After I got an answer from my ego, I recited the Testification of Faith.<\/p>\n
\u201cO my Shaykh, for 25 years, whatever my ego told me to do when I asked for its advice, I did the opposite.\u00a0 Now, when I asked it what I should do, whether I should take the Testification of Faith, or not, my ego told me: \u2018 \u2018Are you crazy? Are you going to go down to the bottom step and climb all the way up again? You are crazy! Be aware of this! Never give the Testification of Faith!\u2019 And I was fighting with my ego whether to say or not.\u00a0 Since my ego insisted not to say it, I decided to say it.\u201d<\/p>\n
Sayyidin\u0101 Kh\u0101lid said: \u00a0\u201cWhen you said it, you received heavenly powers.\u00a0 We do not depend on wordly powers.\u00a0 Wordly power is for Satan.\u201d\u00a0 When you see non-Muslims or Muslims who are not keeping Islam, that can perform miraculous feats, you must know that this is worldly power.\u00a0 Satan and devils can do this easily: \u00a0walking on water, going through fires, walking on nails, penetrating through walls.\u00a0 This is not dependable.\u00a0 We need heavenly powers, and they come from the light of the heart.\u00a0 We need to love everyone as we love ourself.\u00a0 That is what we need truly.\u00a0 We need to respect everyone.\u00a0 We need to be helpful with everyone, humble towards everyone.\u00a0 Be aware of this, and you will find that heavenly powers are open in front of you.<\/p>\n
The next day, Sayyidin\u0101 Kh\u0101lid went back to his association of hundreds of scholars, disciples and students in Damascus, and he said to them: \u00a0\u201cI have been teaching you for forty or fifty years, and no one is doing something to tame his ego.\u00a0 That unbeliever was able to gain miraculous powers \u2013 wordly powers \u2013 because he was doing something against his ego.\u00a0 You I have told to fight your ego, to kill your ego, to be good servants, and you are not accepting.\u00a0 For that reason heavenly powers are never going to be opened for you.<\/p>\n
Take this story into consideration and be good servants.<\/p>\n
And from God is all success.<\/p>\n
