On Thursday Turkey's first lady Amine Erdogan met with First Lady Mrs. Bush where she presented her with several books of poetry by the great Turkish Master of both esoteric and exoteric Islamic knowledge Shaykh Jalaluddin Rumi. Mrs. Erdogan explained to Mrs. Bush the tremendous role of spirituality in Islam and gave her a brief history of how the Companions of the Prophet, followed by later scholars, transmitted both the law and the spiritual training they received from the Prophet. Their outreach work, and that of later scholars and masters of Islam's spiritual discipline and chivalric tradition resulted in Islam's rapid spread in present-day Turkey. |
