  • 85,000 cubic yards of concrete
  • 100,000 sq yards of marble

In building this mosque, the modern Indonesian government sought to create one of the seven wonders of the world, as their ancestors had built Borobudour (in 500 BC) or Prambanan, two huge Indonesian temples from pre-Islamic times.

The groundbreaking took place on Mawlid an-Nabi (s) in 1961 to emphasize the importance of Honoring the Prophet (s), his love, and commemorating his Birth.

Shaykh Hisham and the ISCA delegation arrived at the Istiqlal Mosque, Jakarta on July 11th. The Shaykh,
accompanied by Malaysia's Prince HRH Raja Ashman bin Azlan Shah, were greeted by the Mosque
