This depends on how you feel, that are you doing something good for yourself by benefiting the, the ummah, by worshipping? So you have to judge for yourself. So if you find that you are happy, then, Alhamdulillah<\/em>\u2026<\/p>\n Questioner:<\/b>\u00a0To critique yourself is hard sometimes\u2026<\/p>\n Shaykh Hisham:<\/b>\u00a0Yeah it\u2019s hard, but it\u2019s easy. You can think: \u201cToday what I have done? Did I hurt anyone heart? Did I lie? Did I did something wrong? You think\u2026 you\u2019ll find lots of mistakes! All right? So you know, that\u2019s why Sayyidina \u2018Umar said: \u201cwho, every day you evaluate you, your, what you have done. If you find that your work yesterday was better than your work today, better for you to be under ground than to be above ground.\u201d It means every day you have to improve yourself. If you don\u2019t improve, it means you are losing.<\/p>\n That\u2019s why Sayyidina \u2018Umar put one person in his, at his door, when he used to enter, to remind him of\u00a0akhira<\/em>\u00a0[hereafter]. One day he said to that person: \u201cI don\u2019t need you anymore\u201d \u2013 after many years: \u201cI don\u2019t need, I don\u2019t need you , I don\u2019t.\u201d He said, \u201cSayyidina \u2018Umar , why, why don\u2019t you need me anymore?\u201d He said, \u201d Me, I was sitting there for two, three years at your door telling you, remind \u2019Remember\u00a0akhira<\/em>, the next life, remember\u00a0akhira<\/em>\u2019 whenever you enter your house, whenever you go.\u2019 He said, \u201cNow, I have already, Allah gave me two, two reminders for me for\u00a0akhira<\/em>.\u201d He said, \u201cWhat are they?\u201d He said, \u201cMy beard has two white hairs. Now I know that I am on the way to die.\u201d<\/p>\n So, if you have this consciousness, then, you know what you do and you can report yourself what you are doing. And that\u2019s why sometimes you need a guide. Just now you said in the university they have reports. Who gives them the reports? Who gives them the grades? Not the guide? not the professor.
